Neuquén: birthplace of prehistoric dinosaurs, combines the wildest Patagonian steppe with the splendor of its lakes and valleys, resplendent with vegetation. In Neuquén you can continue on route 231 by the north bank of the Nahuel Huapi lake up to Villa La Angostura, to access the Arrayanes National Park, named after the trees (myrtus) that stands out because of its cinammon bark and white flowers.
Birthplace of prehistoric dinosaurs
They were christened by Sir Richard Owen in 1840, who called them dinosaurs, from the Greek terms “deinos”, which means “large and fearful”, and “sauros”, which means “lizard”.In the Argentinian Patagonia, there have been great discoveries in the paleontology field. In some cases, dinosaurs are named after their discoverer or the paleontologist who determines that the specimen belongs to a new genus. Some other times, nomenclatures refer to some phyiscal trait or to the site where the dinosaur remains were found. At any rate, the name must be approved by the International Comission on Zoological Nomenclature.
